Born Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao on December 17, 1978 in Kibawe, Bukidnon, Philippines. Raised in abject poverty, boxing offered a way out and he compiled a 60-4 amateur record before turning pro in 1995.
One of the most decorated boxers in history, he captured world championships in a record eight weight divisions from flyweight to super welterweight and authored a 17-5-2 world title bout record. In 2019 he defeated Keith Thurman for the WBA welterweight belt and became the oldest to win a 147-pound title. During his 26-year career, he scored wins over champions Joshua Clottey, Brandon Rios, Antonio Margarito and Adrien Broner as well as Hall of Famers Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, “Sugar” Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto. He owns a pair of wins over Juan Manuel Marquez, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales and Timothy Bradley Jr. “Pac Man” was a three time The Ring and BWAA “Fighter of the Year’” (2006, 2008, 2009) and named “Boxer of the Decade” by the BWAA (2000-09). One of the top pay-per-view draws in history, he retired in 2021 with a record of 62-8-2 (39 KOs).
In retirement he has been elected to the House of Representatives in his native Philippines and is the currently serving as senator.
