Born Gerald Howard Roth on May 12, 1941 in Scranton, PA. Roth began working as a judge for the Nevada State Athletic Commission in 1980.
Over the next three and a half decades he became one of boxing’s leading judges, officiating 225 world title bouts. Among the high profile bouts he was assigned included Larry Holmes vs. Gerry Cooney, Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Meldrick Taylor I, Roy Jones Jr. vs. James Toney, Johnny Tapia vs. Danny Romero, Roy Jones Jr. vs. John Ruiz, Evander Holyfield vs. George Foreman, Joe Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones Jr., Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley I, Marco Antonio Barrera vs. Erik Morales III, Lennox Lewis vs. Evander Holyfield II and the Riddick Bowe vs. Evander Holyfield trilogy.
After nearly 35 years at ringside, Roth judged his last contest in 2015, the WBO featherweight title bout between Vasyl Lomachenko and Gamalier Rodriguez in Las Vegas.
