Sam Silverman is credited as New England's most prolific boxing promoter, staging over 10,000 fights during his 40-plus year career.
Known as "Suitcase" Sam (because his office wasn't bigger than one) or "Unsinkable" Sam, Silverman arranged 32 of former heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano's 49 pro bouts.
He also promoted 25 world championship bouts, including DeMarco-Basilio, DeMarco-Saxton, Pender-Robinson and Saddler-Collins.
He also promoted shows featuring Hall of Famer Willie Pep, Phil Terranova and Harold (Chubby) Gomes.
Silverman died in an automobile accident on July 9, 1977 at age 64.
