Born Theodore Carroll on July 6, 1904 in New York. Carroll grew up in the Greenwich Village section of New York and graduated from the High School of Commerce in New York. He served four years in the United States Army, achieving the rank of First Lieutenant.
For over 50 years, Carroll’s artwork graced the pages of The Ring. Carroll was also a frequent writer for the venerable magazine, providing insight into the top fighters and fights of the day and penning the thoroughly researched series on the history of African American fighters. In addition his work appeared in a variety of New York area newspapers. Known as a master boxing cartoonist, Carroll was also famous for his ever-present bow tie.
The highly respected Carroll passed away in 1973.
