Born Randall Alan Gordon on March 11, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY.
A former amateur boxer and armed with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Long Island University, he began covering boxing in 1974 as editor at World Boxing, International Boxing and Big Book of Boxing magazines. In 1979 he left to become associate editor of The Ring at the behest of Bert Sugar and in 1983 he was named editor-in-chief of the venerable magazine. Gordon was also editor-in-chief of Boxing Illustrated from 1979-81. He found success behind the microphone as color analyst at ESPN (1980-82), USA Network (1983-88) and MSG Network (1986-88). His experience in boxing goes beyond journalism and broadcasting, he was boxing consultant at HBO (1979-81), chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission (1988-95), president of the Association of Boxing Commissions (1990-92) and director of boxing at Foxwoods (1995-97).
Known to fans around the world as “The Commish,” since 2009, he has expertly covered the sport on SiriusXM as host of At the Fights alongside Gerry Cooney.
