Born on February 7, 1955 in San Antonio, TX.
After graduating from Brown University in 1977, he began freelancing for ABC Sports. In 1978 he joined fledgling cable outlet HBO as an assistant producer. With stars such as Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvelous Marvin Hagler, the 1980s saw boxing became HBO’s flagship franchise and Greenburg steadily rose through the ranks, serving as was vice president/executive producer (1985-90), senior vice president/executive producer (1990-2000) and ultimately president (2000-11). During this period he revolutionized broadcast boxing with numerous innovations including microphones in the corners, translators in the corner for non-English speaking boxers, adding CompuBox numbers to the broadcasts, hiring Harold Lederman as unofficial judge and installing an overhead camera directly above the ring. A brilliant documentarian, he infused storytelling elements to boxing and created the 24/7 all-access docu-series. In 2012 he established Ross Greenburg Productions to create original documentaries and docu-series.
During his career he was earned countless accolades including eight Peabodys and 56 Sports Emmys.
