Born July 23, 1977 in Nancy, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France. 

Mathis turned professional on October 21, 1995 with a 1st round TKO over Erika Szegedi in Hungary. In her 11th bout she won the European light welterweight belt and then added the WBA title with a 7th round TKO over Myriam Lamare. She successfully defended the WBA belt with a rematch win over Lamare (W 10), Ana Pascal (TKO 3) and Belinda Laracuente (W 10), adding the WBC /WIBF belts with the Pascal victory. Mathis won WIBA / WBF / WIBF welterweight belts before stopping Holly Holm (KO 7) for the vacant IBA welterweight title. Following a rematch loss to Holm (L10) and unified champion Cecilia Braekhus (L 10) she won the WBF light middleweight title in 2013 and retained the belt against Christina Hammer (NC 5) and Oxandia Castillo (W 10). Mathis retired from the ring in 2016 after being stopped by Braekhus in a rematch in Norway for the WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO/IBO welterweight titles. 

Mathis, who is considered one of the biggest punchers in women’s boxing history, owns a record of 27-4-1, 1 NC (23 KOs) that includes wins over Cindy Serrano and Jane Couch. ​
