"THE FILIPINO FLASH” NONITO DONAIRE TO MAKE FIRST VISIT TO CANASTOTA FOR 2025 HALL OF FAME WEEKEND FESTIVITIES
Annual Hall of Fame Weekend celebration set for June 5- 8
CANASTOTA, NY –MARCH 31, 2025 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum is pleased to announce four-division world champion “The Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire will make his first visit to Canastota to participate in 2025 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend festivities set for June 5-8.
“Nonito Donaire thrilled fans around the world with his exciting and skillful ring style,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “We are thrilled that he will make his first visit to Canastota in June to take part in Hall of Fame Weekend festivities.”
Born in the Philippines, Donaire relocated to the US and following a successful amateur career turned pro in 2001. “The Filipino Flash” captured world championships in four weight divisions – flyweight, bantamweight, super bantamweight and featherweight – and scored wins over Vic Darchinyan, Fernando Montiel, Omar Narvaez, Jorge Arce and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. among others. In 2012, he was named BWAA’s “Fighter of the Year” and his 2019 bout with Naoya Inoue earned The Ring’s “Fight of the Year” honors. Donaire, who is managed by his wife Rachel, has a pro record of 42-8 (28 KOs).
The Class of 2025 to be honored includes boxers Manny Pacquiao, Vinny Paz, Michael Nunn, Yessica Chavez, Anne Sophie Mathis, Mary Jo Sanders, Cathy “Cat” Davis, Rodrigo Valdez (posthumous), Owen Swift (posthumous), referee Kenny Bayless, cut man Al Gavin (posthumous), referee Harry Gibbs (posthumous), broadcaster / journalist Randy Gordon and television producer Ross Greenburg.
The 2025 Hall of Fame Induction Weekend is scheduled for June 5-8th in “Boxing’s Hometown.” Many events will take place in Canastota and nearby Turning Stone Resort Casino throughout the four-day celebration including ringside talks, fist casting, fight night, 5K race / fun run, boxing autograph card show, banquet, parade and induction ceremony.
