HALL OF FAME FLIES FLAGS AT HALF-STAFF FOR

TWO-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION BOBBY CHACON

CANASTOTA, NY - SEPTEMBER 7, 2016 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced its flags will fly at half-staff in memory of two-division world champion Bobby “Schoolboy” Chacon, who passed away today. He was 64.

“One of the West Coast’s top ring attractions, with his all-action, aggressive ring style, Bobby Chacon was a true fan favorite,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. “The Hall of Fame joins the worldwide boxing community in mourning his passing and offer our condolences to his family.”

Born November 28, 1951 in Sylmar, CA, Chacon turned pro in Los Angeles in 1972. With explosive punching power, he knocked out 23 of his first 25 opponents. Chacon won world titles in two weight divisions, reigning as WBC featherweight (1974-75) and the WBC super featherweight (1982-83) champion. “Schoolboy” Chacon holds wins over Chucho Castillo, Alfredo Marcano, Rafael “Bazooka” Limon, Freddie Roach, Arturo Frias and Hall of Famers Danny "Little Red" Lopez and Ruben Olivares. His pro records stands at 59-7-1 (47 KOs).

In 2005 Chacon was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
