ENJOY HALL OF FAME VISIT
APRIL 20, 2015 - Boxing fans in Central New York and a worldwide audience on HBO were treated to a thrilling 12-round battle between super lightweights Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse and “The Siberian Rocky” Ruslan Provodnikov at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino on April 18th.
The bout, which featured 36 minutes of non-stop action, saw Argentina’s Matthysse win a majority decision (114-114, 115-113, 115-113) to raise his record to 37-3 (34 KOs). The bout is a leading contender for “Fight of the Year.”
On Thursday, April 16th, Matthysse and his team, accompanied by legendary champion and Golden Boy Promotions executive Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins, visited the Hall for a walk down boxing’s memory lane. Team Matthysse enjoyed the historic exhibits, particularly the bell from Argentina’s legendary Luna Park and the Hall of Fame plaque of Carlos Monzon.
On the morning of fight day, 2015 Hall of Famer and HBO commentator Jim Lampley, who called the action from ringside that evening, made his first visit to “Boxing’s Hometown.” Lampley, his wife Debra, HBO’s Peter Nelson and Harold Lederman and ESPN boxing writer Dan Rafael spent a considerable amount of time touring the Hall‘s exhibits, research library and event pavilion, which is home to the historic MSG boxing ring. Boxing fans were excited to by the surprise visit and Lampley, Lederman and Rafael graciously posed for pictures with their many fans.
