ERROL SPENCE JR. AND SHAWN PORTER WILL GO TO THE

INTERNATIONAL BOXING HALL OF FAME

CANASTOTA, NY - SEPTEMBER 23, 2019 - On September 28, IBF welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. and WBC champion “Showtime” Shawn Porter will square off at the STAPLES Center in Los Angles to unify their 147-pound titles. The winner of the bout has agreed to donate the hand wraps worn in the fight to the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

The bout, which is promoted by Man Down Promotions, TGB Promotions and Shawn Porter Promotions, will headline an all-action card presented by Premier Boxing Champions. The card will be televised live on PBC on FOX Sports Pay-Per-View.

“The Hall of Fame’s mission is to honor and preserve boxing history and a unification fight of this magnitude will be one for the history books,” said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. “To have two accomplished and popular champions meet center ring to make history will surely be a memorable night for the sport.”

“We are thrilled that both fighters and their camps agreed that the hand wraps worn by the winner and new unified 147-pound champion will go directly to the Hall of Fame for display in Canastota.”

The Hall of Fame displays hand wraps worn by fighters through the ages. Among those on display include Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Henry Armstrong, Willie Pep, Fritzie Zivic, Dick Tiger, Ken Overlin, Hector “Macho” Camcho, “The Pazmanian Devil” Vinny Paz and Johnny Tapia. Most recently, undefeated Gervonta “Tank” Davis donated the hand wraps from his July 27th WBA super featherweight championship defense. Boxing fans have a unique opportunity to enjoy seeing historic hand wraps on display in “Boxing’s Hometown.”

Unbeaten Spence (25-0, 21 KOs) of DeSoto, TX turned pro after representing the USA at the 2012 Olympic Games. He captured the IBF welterweight title in 2017 by defeating Kell Brook (KO 11) and has successfully defended three times. Spence has scored wins over Mikey Garcia, Lamont Peterson and Chris Algieri among others.

A native of Akron, OH, Porter now lives and fights out of Las Vegas. Trained by his father, Kenny, “Showtime” turned pro in 2008 and captured welterweight titles twice (IBF 2013-14, WBC 2018 – present) and holds wins over Devon Alexander, Paulie Malignaggi, Adrien Broner, Andre Berto and Danny Garcia. His pro records stands at 30-2-1 (17 KOs).

A not-for-profit organization, the International Boxing Hall of Fame opened to the public in 1989 in Canastota, New York and is located at Exit 34 of the New York State Thruway. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
